This website was created by photographer Ghislain Vancampenhoudt in order to guide the visitor in his virtual gallery where he offers a personal selection of his best images and compositions throughout the years..

In his early childhood (now more than 40 years ago), he discovered that taking photos could mean more than just souvenirs or just an objective depiction of memorable moments in life. Gradually grew the desire to get more from the magic box.
The original starting material (an Agfa Iso-Rapid) was soon replaced by a Yashica SLR and later by a species of the legendary Nikon F series. With this excellent material, supplemented by a range of original Nikkor lenses there was no more obstacle to create technically perfect images.

Thorough knowledge of equipment and accessories was however necessary to achieve 'technically' successful shots.

After a short 'documentary' period, the desire grew to capture more artistic or alternative images.
From early 70's in addition to the merely shape of the photos, focus was als also laid on color and composition. Besides a significant dose 'self studying' there was a great interest for artwork from the masters and leading professionals in the photography.
During this period he also started to develop black and white films and printing pictures in all popular formats. Developing color negatives and printing color photographs was outsourced to the lab. Occasionally a color slide film was developed and color prints were made from transparancies.

Now the time from the dark room lies behind us, and full use is being mate of the extensive possibilities of digital photography and imaging. Currently he uses two digital refex camera's (a Nikon D80 and a recent D5000) with a range of Nikkor AF lenses. Imaging is done with Adobe Photoshop.

His favorite themes are landscape, portrait and macro photography.
Pictures taken with flashlight do not figure in the collection the photographer considers those images as somewhat unnatural.

A good photograph is timeless and a picture is worth a 1000 words ...

Interesting motives are captured by the photographer in optimal conditions as to weather and light conditions. This does not mean he is always happy with the resulting products. Rather, each photo should be a step in the search for ever new perspectives.

As a photographer it is important that one has a sharp eye on all beautiful and interesting elements of nature and people around us.
Additionally, besides the technical photographic knowhow, one has to have the 'feeling' to turn a photographic subject into a good looking composition ....

The pictures from the analog period are dating from 1967 to 2007. From that moment on, all images are captured and processed digitally.
